Mustang is a city in Oklahoma.
Mustang is a city in Canadian County. It is part of the Oklahoma City Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 17,395 in 2010. This is a population increase of 32.2%. The city had 13,156 more people then in 2000.
Mustang started with the Oklahoma Land Run. As it did in most of central Oklahoma, and very fast. On April 22, the city had 142 people move there.
Boomers looked for the Unassigned Lands where the Run occurred. Sooners crept in early and illegally. This caused many problems. The city of Mustang had slow growth until 1960, then things changed very quickly.
During the 1960s a population growth began. It would last over 20 years. Between 1960 and 1970 the population grew. The transportation systems began taking longer drives to work.
People moved to here because of high paying jobs. At the new Dayton Tire plant. The FAA Aeronautical Center. And the Western Electric plant. Mustang was becoming starting to grow and people were getting good jots. It was a secret that was simply too good to keep quite!
As many as 18 tornadoes ripped through central Oklahoma on Monday, May 10, 2012. One that cut a path through Canadian County. But Mustang was spared from the worst of the damage.
The storms killed two people. Injured over 100 more. The storm tore down several homes. Toppled semitrailers. Torn down power lines in across the state.
Another tornado showed up north of Mustang, it traveled northwest, and moved to the Lake Hefner area.
Several tornadoes were reported in Oklahoma. And in Kansas on Monday May 10, 2012. As the storms moved through the area. It started to hail as big as baseballs. It damaged mobile homes and it left thousands of people without power.
